A voice shaped by books and healing

Born with a love for books, Terri Brown spent her childhood in libraries and her adult years working among them. After nearly 30 years at the University of Kentucky’s main campus library, she returned to her first passion—writing. Her poetry, which began as a teenage outlet for navigating complex emotions, evolved into Soul Healing: Poems of Life, a collaborative collection with fellow poet Frieda Shepherd…

Honest reflections from a healing heart

Soul Healing: Poems of Life emerged from friendship and transition. When Frieda Shepherd proposed creating a poetry collection to honor Terri’s retirement, Terri hesitated—it had been years since she’d written. But she gathered old verses, dusted off forgotten pages, and discovered that her words still had life. Together with Frieda’s contributions, they created a book that celebrates resilience, love, and the ongoing journey of healing.

These aren’t polished declarations from a perfected soul. They’re raw fragments, passing thoughts, and honest expressions from someone still learning to navigate life’s complexities. Terri describes her poems as “tiny snippets, words and short expressions of emotions trapped in the mire of my being”—not grand pronouncements, but authentic moments captured on the page.
